Chinese Tea Ceremony
Tea, a magical leaf with a history of approximately five to six thousand years, originated in ancient Oriental civilization. Initially used for medicinal purposes and later incorporated into cuisine and healthy beverages, it has been deeply cherished by Oriental cultures and slowly developed into a rich tea culture. Over time, the culture of tea spread to the West and was embraced by the upper classes before gradually gaining popularity worldwide.

Tea gathers the essence of nature and concentrates it within its leaves, providing not only health benefits, but also aiding in spiritual cultivation, gradually forming a distinct tea culture. During the Tang Dynasty, the pan-fried tea, and the Song Dynasty, with its focus on aesthetics, brought Chinese tea culture to the pinnacle of development.
The tea ceremony is a form of art and is deeply rooted in Zen philosophy, emphasizing mindfulness and the appreciation of beauty in everyday life. The essence of tea culture lies in “befriending tea” and “nurturing the mind with tea.” The ceremony is performed with strict attention to detail, from the selection of tea leaves, to the preparation of the tea, to the presentation and serving of the tea to guests. It is a form of hospitality that emphasises respect, harmony, and tranquility, and is often accompanied by quiet contemplation or conversation. When we hold tea delicately, the gentle and elegant aroma emanates, and the fragrance of tea can provide a whole day’s worth of spiritual pleasure that soothes the heart.![]()
